W11 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

 What is your attitude toward money: My attitude toward money is if you act rich then you'll be rich. Don't overthink it or it starts to sound bad. This doesn't mean I am going to put everything on a credit card and blow all my money.  I want to be wealthy enough to get my family and friends nice gifts, so with my current financial situation I try to get them nice gifts that fit in my budget, and over time as my money grows I will be able to grow the quality of the gift. It also motivates me to work hard and to make work extra hours in order to fulfill this goal and desire I have. 

How can your view of money affect the way you live: Attitude changes everything. If my attitude is that money doesn't matter and I don't need money then I probably will never have a lot of money. If my attitude is that money is the only thing that matters then I will probably work too much and even go to extremes to save money. There is balance in all things, it is okay to spend money and it is okay to save money. It is also okay to work for money. Even if your job isn't the best there is still reason to be working hard and making the money you can until better opportunities arise. 

What rules are recommended for prospering?

Rule 1. Seek the Lord and have hope in him 

Rule 2. Keep the commandments, that includes the temporal ones, tithing and fast offerings. 

Rule 3. Think about money and plan how you can become self-reliant. 

Rule 4. Take advantage of chances for learning so you will not be ignorant of these matters. Education, as President Hinckley has taught us, is the Key to Opportunity. 

Rule 5. Learn the laws upon which the blessings of wealth are predicated. 

Rule 6. Do not send away the naked, the hungry, the thirsty or the sick or those who are held captive.

Each of these rules teach us an important lesson and will help us prosper not only in money but in our relationships, jobs, church callings and so much more. We should all work towards these rules so that we can prosper in our lives. We can also try and share these rules with others so they can prosper too.

 Put first things first. I strive to be an optimistic person, and I have felt that this habit makes that easier. Put first things first is the third habit from Stephen Covey's "Seven Habit of Highly Effective People." The book says "t he heart of effective personal time management is to spend the maximum time possible doing important jobs in a non-urgent atmosphere that increases your efficiency." W06 Quiz: So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur?

 There was a quote from this week that has really stuck with me. The quote said:“The first and best victory is to conquer self; to be conquered by self is, of all things, the most shameful and vile.” I liked this quote because it teaches us a few different lessons. One lesson I got from it is that we should not be too hard on ourselves. We should learn to conquer ourselves. To me this means we should learn it what ways we can be the most productive in conquering the things of this world. We all have different areas we struggle in, but we can learn how to best react to these areas. I, for example have difficulty in studying extra outside of typical assignments in school. Throughout my time in college I have learned that the bigger issue is after class I have a hard time studying or doing homework so I prefer to get up early and study and do homework before class. W01 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal Blog

 The path of least resistance. This is a path that is address my Elder David A. Bednar in his speech "Your whole souls as an Offering Unto Him." This speech was given in 1999. He talks about this path in the context of our educational journey. He gives four examples of this in his speech, they are:  1. "Is this class an easy A",  2. "please tell me exactly what I have to do to get a good grade on this paper?",  3. "Who is the easiest teacher in this department?" 4. "I have calculated my total points for the semester, and I only have to get a 75% on the final exam to keep my A in the class."  This was an important lesson that I have learned before but was reminded of in the first week of this class. Good grades do not come from a lack of effort, they come from going the extra mile and putting in the extra effort necessary. This is a 3 credit class and so expects 9 hours of work each week.
